WhatsApp for Android is working on a new privacy-related feature that will allow users to manage the synchronization of their address book contacts. This feature, spotted by a feature tracker, will give users the ability to choose how they want to sync their contacts, especially when using WhatsApp on different devices. This development adds new functionality to the existing multi-account feature, which enables users to use two WhatsApp accounts on the same device without needing parallel apps.

According to reports, the new contact syncing feature will come with a user-friendly interface that clearly states, “Keep your contacts separate for each account.” This interface will not only manage contact syncing but also offer users the option to manage WhatsApp contacts from linked devices. The feature has been spotted on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.14 and is expected to provide greater control over contact management.

While the feature is still in development and not yet available for beta testers registered via the Google Play Beta program, it holds promise for future updates of WhatsApp for Android. As with any new feature under testing, there is no guarantee that it will be rolled out to the public version of the app. However, the potential for users to selectively sync contacts for different accounts is a step towards enhanced privacy and personalization within the messaging platform.

In addition to the contact syncing feature, WhatsApp for Android is also reportedly testing a new shortcut for marking all chats as ‘read’ at once. This streamlined chat management tool aims to make it easier for users to stay organized and on top of their conversations. By providing options to clear unread message counts with a single tap, WhatsApp is focusing on enhancing the user experience and simplifying the messaging process.

It is worth noting that WhatsApp for Android is not the only platform undergoing feature updates. The messaging platform is also rumored to be working on a similar ‘mark read’ feature for the iOS version of the app. WhatsApp strives to maintain feature parity across its iOS and Android apps, ensuring that users on both platforms have access to the same innovative tools and functionalities. This commitment to consistency and user satisfaction drives the continuous improvement and evolution of WhatsApp as a leading messaging app in the market.
