According to Jen Wong, the company’s chief operating officer, this strategic pivot is essential for unlocking significant advertising potential in emerging international markets. While most social media platforms boast a global user base that is 80% to 90% non-American, Reddit finds itself with roughly half of its users situated outside the U.S. This discrepancy underscores a ripe opportunity for growing Reddit’s international community, notably by leveraging local languages as a conduit for engagement.

However, Wong noted that as Reddit captures about 10% of a country’s internet population, the company can begin to establish dedicated teams for local advertising.
